Avatar - A Triumph!!!

Well, it looks like James Cameron is really excellent at these huge, epic movies!!!

I will start by saying... WOW!!!  Beautiful, moving, adventuraous, inventive, real, heart-felt, surprising, tender, exciting... I could go on.

This is what I would call an "Edge of your seat Romance".  Avatar so fully met and exceeded all of my expectations, I am actually impressed.  This movie is inventive and passionate.  It's the kind of movie that makes me want to stand up and cheer!

Let's start with the skillful mastery of James Cameron.  He kept me on the edge of my seat with this one for almost 3 full hours!!!  I wanted it to go on and on!!!  James, I'm ready for the sequel!

The acting is excellent.  The cast is perfect.  Matching some of our favorite veterans with some welcome new comers.  Sigourney Weaver is powerful, believable and fabulous, as always!  I will also give a warm nod to Giovanni Ribisi who; again, as always, is not only believable, but the witty and charismatic bad guy we love to hate.

I was completely sold on the alternate/alien world created by James Cameron.  I was so drawn in by this beautiful world; I started learning the language while I was in the theater.

This is a MUST SEE for the big screen!  The visuals are stunning, the acting is wonderful, and the direction is literally brilliant.

Run, don't walk to your nearest big screen and see Avatar!!

  1. Fully agree with the sterling assessment of this movie. A lot of the buzz has been about the new motion capture methods innovated by Cameron, but also about the story elements, most of which are heavily borrowed from other fiction and science fiction writers over the ages. As with the original Star Wars, the plot and story elements of Avatar may be so universally appealing precisely because they aren't brand new. They're older, established concepts that we just like.

I'd like to add a nod to actor Stephen Lang, who, at age 57, portrayed the electric Colonel Miles Quaritch. I can't stand how many older actors just phone it in, when they're cast as aging military officers. Lang positively rippled with muscle and grit, and the air around him seemed to crackle when he was on screen. I found him immensely intimidating, and that's a big part of how you draw an audience in.

Avatar topped the $1B mark this weekend. Kudos.
